Job Description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law preserve peace protect the people reduce fear and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Grants Unit functions within the Budget Management Division under the Deputy Commissioner Management and Budget bureau. The Grants Unit is seeking a City Research Scientist II to serve as a Grant Manager that would be responsible for managing grant programs administered by the Department of Homeland Security in addition to other grant programs from various entities including but not limited to the NYS Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) NYS Department of Transportation etc.

The Grant Manager will work in collaboration with the Command in the development and submission of grant applications and budgets budget modifications/reallocations grant extensions billings and all other fiscal and programmatic reporting requirements. The staff member will also be reviewing audit proposals and supporting documentation attending meetings on and off site as required and performing various budget analyses.

Qualifications :

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical biological and environmental sciences and public health) A masters degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A masters degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least a masters degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in 2 above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in 1 and 2 above.
